It is the holiday season, kids! I know you have all be good this year.
This year we have a famous Christmas story by Charles Tazewell, The Littlest Snowman Rescues Christmas, adopted for comics by Gaylord Du Bois (script) and Mel Crawford (art). From FOUR COLOR No. 864 (December 1957).
There is so much to love in this story beginning with the superb, pure draftsmanship of Mel Crawford. His work is always deceptively simple, pure, uncluttered, and perfect.
Also perfect is the story of the littlest snowman who understands that love, the spirit of Christmas, has the power to thaw all the coldness of the world. Watch how our snowman can enlist all of Mankind, from the humblest of children to the men who stride the corridors of power, in his mission of Christmas (and, of course, the animals of the fields lend their loving support).
Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas, kids! I hope these holidays find you warm, safe, and happy! – Your friend, Mykal
I will see you all again very soon, kids! This post got me into a Mel Crawford frame of mind! I will next post a Little Golden Book Mr. Crawford illustrated in 1962 called "Big Red." You are going to love it!
